Sometimes it’s fun to try something new. TJ and I had spent nearly a year developing our fashion and fine art portfolio, but when we were approached by Twin Alchemist for a comissioned shoot of one of her cosplay characters, we jumped at the opportunity.
Theoretically, shooting cosplay isn’t any different than your standard portrait or fashion assignment. Wardrobe, props, hair, makeup, location, time, and posing are factors in all of our shoots. But since cosplay is about becoming a specific character- in this case Yuna from Final Fantasy X, we not only felt it important to study up on the character herself, but to go a little crazy in post.
Yes, that’s Crane Beach in Ipswich, MA. It only sort of looked like that- the water and the sunlight are real. So is Twin Alchemist’s costume, which is handmade and pretty much perfect in every way.
We’re especially thrilled with the behind the scenes video Insane Gemini Productions captured for us. That’s my brother Dan Silvers from Lantana Games holding the reflector.
