We’ve already rolled right past the summer solstice, and it’s feeling like the whole year is flying by at alarming, energetic speed. I recall starting 2024 with an ambitious list of shoots I wanted to crank out. Things haven’t turned out exactly as planned.

This was one such shoot. It began as a Hollywood circa 1940 theme which got cancelled and rescheduled so many times that I had somewhat lost my original inspiration of releasing the images in time for the Oscars. When I wound up needing to recast and found Abbey- who looks a whole lot like a young Jerry Hall- I scrapped the whole concept and decided to go with a 70’s Halston vibe. This, of course, meant starting over with new fabric, new lighting, and a new studio setup. And I had ONE week.

I got pretty lucky at the Fabric Place Basement; I grabbed a stretchy crushed velour, a sparkly purple woven with tinsel, a pink pleated satin, a micropleated lame… and after a few nights of brainstorming and restless draping we were ready to go.

It was all made easier with a wonderful team. For makeup, hair, and nails, we brought in Karrie who we hadn’t seen since September of 2019. And Abbey was a dream to work with, it all came together so naturally.

Of course, I barely remember it now so much has happened between shoots, the kids, the garden… I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such an intense upswing of the year, and I have to assume I’ll spend the second half sleeping it off. But more on that later. In the meantime, I promised myself that I would stay on top of this blog, so I’m posting even though I really don’t have all that much to say. I may regret that later, but at least the photos are out there.
