A little over two years ago (cannot believe that I’m saying that), after a month or so of collecting pumpkins, assorted squash, corn stalks, dried miscanthus grass, and hay bales; braving finnicky, frozen October mornings to get a 8×12 foot canvas backdrop painted in various olive tones; and designing a series of three outfits based on Jack, Sally and Mr. Oogie Boogie from A Nightmare Before Christmas, we dragged all of it into our home studio and turned it into a photoshoot.

Current year, I’m finding it difficult to remember those days before Covid and baby, when I could just go buy whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it, without a mask, and not be worried about the consequences of having hay all over the house. Still, I do recall it being a pretty fun way to spend a cold, rainy, October day, and I take great pride in having painted, singed tulle, dyed white tights the exact shade of chartreuse as the 20 yards of mesh I was pinning into a dress, and carried all those pumpkins around while 28 weeks pregnant. The resulting scene was, as usual, perfectly lit by TJ, and the photos are just the right mix of beautiful, surreal, and creepy.

Cleaning up afterwards though? That’s the stuff of nightmares. Happy Halloween everyone!!!!
