I was too young to have ever seen a show at The Rat, and what my mom still refers to as the “Combat Zone” I optimistically call the “Theater District,” but there are still some grungy parts of Boston the city can’t seem to get rid of. And that’s a good thing. I’m making it a point to capture it all in photos before this city completely gentrifies.
Stop one: Cleveland Circle. It was a VERY cold Saturday when I crimped Brianna’s hair into a fauxhawk and TJ and I followed her around Beacon Street, getting yelled at by T workers at regular intervals along the way.
Turns out you’re not allowed to sit on the platform. Not even if you’re modeling.
Remember The Circle? It’s still here, just empty and sad. I’m sure there are big plans to make it one of those unusual “mixed use development” things.. you know, with a CVS and Starbucks and its very own Chipotle…
And what would Cleveland Circle be without Mary Ann’s dive bar serving underage drinkers?
Bad example. Just one week after we took these the awning came down. Not sure what’s next for this place, but I suspect it will label itself as a “gastropub.”
Brianna isn’t too happy about it either.
