If you’ve been following this blog, you may have already recognized my balloon obsession. They’re colorful, timeless, innocent, and relatively cheap. What’s not to love?

I’d had this shoot- and these balloons in particular- floating around in my head for over a year before we were able to shoot it. I wanted a lonely, post-season beach vibe, pastels, something reminiscent of my grandmother’s trips to Cony Island in her youth. Revere Beach, and what used to be Wonderland Amusement Park, seemed like the perfect less obvious location.

I reunited Clara and Grace- who also worked with me for the No Bobby Socks set we shot back in 2015- and after a day of hair and makeup, we set about inflating 2 dozen balloons in the Wonderland T station parking garage. In case you were wondering, we did not get any strange looks. That’s how high the weird bar is set around there.

I felt the need to prove Wonderland in writing, lest no one believe me, but, admittedly, I was disgusted with cold modernity of the new Wonderland station, so we moved onto ice cream, Kelly’s fried clams, and building sandcastles by moonlight.

I can think of worse ways to spend a Thursday
