A Midsummer Dream

June 19th, Part II. Dana and I had wrapped our shoot around 6am, 12 hours before I met Sondra on the other side of Newton at Houghton Garden in Chestnut Hill. It was the kind of long, sprawling day that really can only happen in late June. The sun had come out just in time to embark on its magical, golden set, the breeze was strong enough to keep the mosquitoes away but still feel gentle, the mountain laurels were still blooming, and everything that was supposed to be green was green.

It’s almost hard to imagine now in mid-August, when it feels like summer has already started to slip away from us. On that day, it felt eternal.

But that’s why I scheduled so many June shoots, I suppose. So that now, as the greens turn to gold and the soft breezes no longer feel quite so soft, I can remember what those long sprawling days around the Solstice felt like. And look forward to going back there again.
